Discover Tollesbury

Start in Tollesbury →

Tollesbury is a working village on the edge of the Essex saltmarsh – a place that has been fishing, farming and sailing since before the Norman Conquest. This guide takes you through it: from the waterfront sail lofts where Thomas Lipton’s America’s Cup yachts wintered, through streets that once held 56 separate businesses, past a 13th-century manor house and a Norman church, to the sea wall and the estuary beyond.

The stops cover history, architecture, nature and everyday village life – some are ancient buildings, some are the King’s Head, some are the view. Follow the route in order or dip in wherever you are.
