Woodrolfe Road Intersection
Look for the raised ground near No. 39. This is one of the clearest surviving traces of the Crab and Winkle in the village: a section of the old railway embankment, the low bank thrown up to carry the track. Woodrolfe Road was the second of the two roads the pier extension crossed. Once you have your eye in for the embankment’s line, you can start to read the railway’s course through streets that were laid out long after the last train had gone.
