Mell Farm Intersection
The pier extension had to cross a landscape of salt-marsh and grazing land to reach the water, and it is partly the sheer expanse of marsh here that undid the whole venture – there was never the population or the trade to fill the trains the developers hoped for. The walk picks up the sea wall footpath and comes inland through Mell Farm and onto Mell Road, roughly tracing the ground the line once crossed on its way down to the Blackwater.
